Hello, 3 days new to modeling and ran into a problem in 3ds max 10.

tailproblem.jpg I am trying to rig a new model to the old hydralisk bone animations. However whenever I apply weight to any part of the model from the bone the mode becomes distorted. I don't understand what I am doing incorrectly after reading rigging guides and some youtube demonstrations.
