3DS Max - UV's and Viewport Canvas - Straighten and Clipping

Hey to all, have two issues, anyone up for helping me solve them?

Issue Number one:

I have some fairly complex models (hard surface) which require unwrapping, and they also need to be straight (align the edges horizontally and vertically) because I have alot of straight dents and such for the normal map. I was wondering if there was an easy way (or a script) which I could select my UV's by element and 'automatically' have the edges straightened out, up and down? I'm guessing a script is the best option, but was wondering if Max had such an option built in.

PS: I use Textools, but am not aware if such a tool exists in it.

Issue Number two:

I have been trying to use Viewport Canvas for a while now, but to no avail. Infact, I have been getting issues with it. The VC keeps on clipping on me for no reason, as in I cannot see my mesh when I zoom out for a small distance.

Links as to what I mean:

Anyone come across this issue? I can't solve it no matter what for the life of me.

    1 : I don't know, textools as some autogrid tool, no ?

    2 : configure viewports>rendering methods>viewport clipping
Then lower the bottom arrow in the viewport. If it's not enough, scale up your object, or use an orthographic view.

    1) Max 2012 has such a feature. Its called "Linear Align", its found in the upper right, under "reshape elements".

In 2010-2011 you can select edges click loop, click ring and click straighten, its down in the lower right corner. You can then click ring then loop for horizontal edges.

In older versions you can grab some straighten UV scripts that are floating around, James Haywood, Niel Blevins both have some good ones. I wrote a few too, I could dig them if you really have trouble finding some.

Nope, neither of those work. As the links I posted say, the only solution would be to change the system of measurement to max generic units, but even that doesn't help me for some reason.

Yep, that's the one in Max 2012, I was wondering if such a thing existed for Max 2011?

I already have a bulk of Souls and James script, but couldn't find anything that fitted my bill like the one in 2012.

Sorry for the bump, thought this might interest some people:

Basically, I'm looking for something like this, but not limited to single strips for Max 2011.
