I've been used to the next gen workflow and i wanted to do a handpainted diffuse only character for once.
I found this really cool character concept in my reference folder (don't know the original artist
)
So this is what i have so far. Trying to get the right silhouette .
first 360 wip

Silloutte is looking good so far. What are the poly count range you are going for?
atm its around 4000 triangles. I think i'm going to go for 5000 and try to get as much out of it as i can. I think she can use a little more triangles around the hips to make it look smoother.
The actual "wings" parts look kind of small. I think she's a bit thicker in the limbs than the illustration, and maybe her legs could be longer, but other than that the shapes look pretty good.
She could probably use more rings in her elbows and knees. The cloth hanging from her wrist could also use more divisions.
I notice though that your joints are being pretty aggressively 'poly counted' Her right elbow looks like its going to look like shit when it bends. perhaps shave some polys off on one of the static areas and spend them on her joints.
I definately agree with haikai about the limbs. here legs especially look like they should be longer and thinner. (you can really see it in the leg warmers)
RAWTalent: I'm going to paint a lot of the detail in there. I still have to model some of the cloth pieces but if it isn't a piece the shows in the silhouette it will probably be painted in.
Sheckee: tnx
haikai: I'm going to adjust the leg length. I probably made them a bit short due to her pose in the concept.
Edgeloops etc are going to be looked at, since i'm aiming for 5000 tris i'm going to add enough loops for proper deformation
r_fletcher_r: i agree, it will be fixed!
started painting, couldn't resist already doing some detail stuff on the face
She looks super creepy without eyebrows, though.
Swizzle: haha yeah, eyebrows is something i usually add in the end. Don't know why though
didn't work on it too much the last 2 days so a minor rough update
texture aside, I can't help thinking the pose/curves could be pushed a little further, she feels kinda stiff, mainly from the ribcage down. I realize you're not done with the modeling, but I couldn't resist massaging those curves... I'm pretty crap with female anatomy but I tried a paintover anyway, hope it helps dude. Cheers.
Just got the feeling boobs are a bit weirdly hanging to the outside :P
looking forward to seeing the end result !
She's still lookin freaky without those eyebrows
lovin' the metal!
Ferg: yeah i might push the silhouette a bit more, but i'm always afraid of overdoing it. I think something halfway of what you did might be good.
Roepetoepa : that's how boobs work! nah maybe in the end i'll squeeze them together a bit. or i'll add bones and just make them wobble all around the place (sure would make it more animeish :P)
Charlotte: i'll add a unibrow just to make you happy
Can you tell me how to do the turntable gif?
And try to make her a bit less sad plez.
Anyway, keep rocking!
Sukotto: gonna look into that, i've gotten quite used to it but now that i look at it again i do agree
Jon: tnx i really appreciate it (love your work btw ^^), I'm going to introduce some bounce light to the overall piece when i have most of the tones down so that should help te metal pop out a bit more
nightflarer: you go for it ! For the turntables i use my script to capture the active time range of my viewport (linear 360 animation from fram 0 to 100).
Then i go to files->import videoframes to layers, pick limit to every 2 frames and import it, then crop it to the size you want , goto the animation panel, select all frames and change the speed to 0.09 seconds and then export the Gif using export for web.
Maph: tnx m8, gonna fix all of that! the sadness of her face is a reflection of my own feelings for this weather outside i guess
don't mind the dirty legs yet
I also think it would be worth the extra polygons to give the wings thickness too.
I'm also feeling the low-poly on the bottom of her legs at her heels.
