Duplicate Faces on Export

Hi everyone. It seems I've run into a bit of a problem that has left me somewhat puzzled. I exported a low poly model, from Maya 2010, as an obj for baking in XNormal. After repeated bad AO bakes I decided to take a look at the obj file itself. Upon doing so I realized that everything had duplicate faces. The original MA file that I exported from doesn't. So now I'm left trying to figure out wth happed. I wouldn't think anything about it but this has happened to me before so I'd really like to figure out where I'm effing the process up or is it just a fluke? Any ideas on what could be going on? After realizing what happened I exported the model in a new obj and did not replicate the problem.

    Sounds like a fluke.
Have you tried selecting all the verts and welding? Delete history?

Or try combining the model with a cube, then delete the faces for the cube, then delete history.

Well, I started out trying cleanup but that would not work for whatever reason. I then tried merging all the verts but I was still left with duplicate faces. The only solution I found to work was to separate the mesh, pull the duplicate pieces off to the side and then delete them. Now the model is as good as new, just kind of a wonky situation.
