Hello everyone,

I am about to start creating my personal portfolio homepage. I figured out that portfolio homepages are incredibly important when applying for whatever in the industry. I wanted to take my time and make up something that is maybe not perfect, but follows certain rules and meets certain standards. Currently I am researching on the web and I created a list of points I made up out of the research. I kept my focus on artists who mainly do 3D modeling, because that's the path I wanna take, too. If you have any more ideas, shoot! :)

Portfolio Page Research:

• Content:
o Focus: Show your strength and create a „silent job wish“
o Show a variety of content
o Only show things you are confident of
o Proof that you possess an “artistic eye”
o Quality > Quantity!
o Include large, high quality content (pictures, videos etc.)
o Show strongest pieces first
o No WIP pieces
o Give credits if you have to
o Keep the text short and easy to read
o Don’t include tutorial pieces
o Team Project: Point out what you have done
o 3D Models:
 Show wireframe, shaded and textured
 If possible show models in game engine
 Include at least Front, Side, Back and ¾ view
 Show concept art/references
 Show possibility to animate
 Be sure to depict your skill variety by a variety of models
 Also include UV mapping/UV sheets if possible
 Include polycount

• Personal presentation:
o The website is the first impression
o Link to your LinkedIN, Vimeo or Xing profile
o Include contact options such as Email, ICQ, Skype etc.
o Create a structured CV/Resume which is easy to read
o Provide CV/Resume download option (.pdf)
o Always check your spelling and grammar

o Practice content presentation
 Know your own page

• Usability:
o Simple and easy to navigate
 The viewer will find important content more easily
 Presentation of work is more easy
o “Back to top” and “Home” buttons ease up navigation
o Don’t use very branched menus

• Page design:
o Simple without a distracting design (fancy flash animation, huge banner etc.)
o Use enough space, good content deserves it
o Have a uniform style and color concept
o Provide thumbnail galleries with the option for large picture versions

to be continued...
