Wierd texture errors

Hi everybody I have run into some texturing troubles and I cant seems to figure them out. once I apply a texture to my model the handle and the two pieces of wood that hold the lid of my crate together always appear white even when the diffuse which is applied to the entire model is a solid coulor. Any help would be greatly appreciated
