Are you bloody serious? Already? WTF is going on in the industry...can't developers lock the games on a specific computer, which has a hardware lock, kinda like what Valve are planning on Steam?
Don't node lock, just have it digitally signed to the QA tester. Then when a leak is found, just trace it to that user, and take them to the bank.
That would be ideal, but what's to stop someone from going onto someone's computer and leaking the copy with the poor person who forgot to lock/logoff his computer's signature.
Testers unfortunately aren't treated very well, and some of them are just too ticked off to care anymore what's going on. Some of them just rush the door at the end of the day when time is up.
Also, there is a reason most game dev's have a hard time going after pirates, those guys simply erase all traces of serial numbers and such, and paste their own alpha numeric values and sign with those. That's why in case of Steam, pirates needs to also pirate the patches, and cannot simply download and install them as they wish.
Can of worms, I know, sorry about that, but I honestly think a hardware lock in these cases would be the best option...and maybe have the PC/Dev Kit be inside a locked cage with only the on/off button displayed.
It also won't hurt if the mouse had finger tips reading abilities...also, a blood sample...
$20 says it wasn't anybody on the dev team, but WAS some shmuck suit in the marketing department who thought it would be a good way to "generate buzz".
Dana Cowley, Head of PR for Epic Games has today released an official statement about the recent Gears of war 3 leak.
The leaked copy of the game that hit the Internet contains the full campaign as well as the games multiplayer modes, however it is very buggy. "We have seen the reports of Gears of War 3 content being propped on the Web and working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation. This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches worldwide on September 20, 2011."
This is isn't going to hurt GOW3 sales one bit. People able to play this have modded consoles, so they weren't going to buy the game in the first place anyway.
I have often played the Devil's Advocate in discussions relating the piracy et. al. However I have always considered early leaks to be heinous. I can seriously see the harm to the developer that could be caused and seriously, people need some patience, if paying customers have to wait then so do the damn pirates, just wait till it done!

Your missing the fact that people who can play it, know the storyline and are posting spoilers everywhere they can. It demoviates people to find out Dom was actually a emulsion bomb in a human suit An knowing this partly ruins the game when people find out.

lmao, it's pretty ironic you're shitting on people that post spoilers and you're doing the same yourself.
Well then you must not be paying very much attention when you're playing.
Also thanks Lazerus, that spoiled it for me now. Don't really care but still.
Nothing wrong with not having much of a story, I actually meant it as a compliment It's usually best to keep things simple when it comes to these types of games, trying too hard usually ends up messy...like the recent COD games.

Reading spoilers about the story won't make anyone change their minds about buying GOW3, so my point is still valid

Yeah I somewhat agree with that. There's still a story though and a reason you're doing these objectives even though it's not extremely deep.

i agree. i read 1 spoiler (unfortunately) and saw 1 video of multiplayer. if anything it got me a bit more excited for the game.
