Also, it's funny how some of the guys agree with him, and make some far fetched statments, only to fall back on them later on when they feel he is a troll.
Well, while I wont agree with all his points, and do find a problem with how realistic games are dealing with micro details now a days. One thing that slips to mind is the recently released DX11 patch for Crysis 2, while it adds awesome features, there just some things that destroys the feeling more then adding to it, an example is this:

look at 1:51, the depth of thoose bricks makes it look like somebody started diging out all the grooves with a spoon. Way to much in my opinion!
I think its important to remember that throwing every detail into everything is a good idea, it can make it hard for your eye to find focus points.
1:51!? the movie is only 1:33 long! TROLL!!! (Just kidding)
[edt]The problem with those bricks is that its a tech demo so they want to make the effect really obvious. This tends to be pretty common with new tech. Once people ge over the OH SHIT!! NROMAL MAPS!!! or PH SHIT!! BLOOM!!! or OH SHIT!! TESSELATION!!! phase they will start using the effect more subtely and tastefully.
ps. I'm well aware that I succumb to the OH SHIT phase often
Its like a lot of games when they managed to get specular into shaders, and EVERYTHING got this high gloss shiny look. I'm guessing you could say the same with Crysis 2 (though I think a lot of the stuff just isn't made for the new stuff, just like throwing diffuse directly into normal map, you need to make a proper normal map to make it look right)
It's spelled "loose", not "lose"! I have honestly never seen it mixed up that way. "Lose" and "Loose" are mixed up all the time though but it's still equally annoying. Spelling correctly is fun.
Its funny the way he complains about DaGrfx not being realistic/representational enough, when they never were at the dawn of games. That person should have a go at Pac-Man, because he just doesn't look like a realistic enough man.
Pardon me for actually writing a serious response, but it really irks me whenever someone talks about normal maps and recent game tech, as if it is the cause for bland games. Its really a ridiculous train of thought.
Most games with bland art have normals/spec/ect? Not going to argue.
Most games in general have normals/spec/ect? Yep.
Most bland games would be bland regardless if they were entirely handpainted, or if they used modern shaders? Yep.
Style is independent from tech, 100%, there just happens to be a lot of bland games, and a lot of games that use modern tech. CONCLUSION MODERN TECH = BLAND GAMES!!! FFFFFUUUUUUUUUU
It just makes no sense, you can use normal maps, cool shaders, etc with a large amount of style, most projects simply lack the artistic vision, and art direction to pull it off. Just as most games have throughout the history of the games industry. Its not as if every game 10 years ago was an artistic masterpiece. I think people have a tendancy to get this sort of retarded nostalgic view of older games, just because you have these great memories playing them, suddenly they are the pinnacle of artistic achievement.
This game uses normal maps, fancy shader, post processing, etc:
But isn't bland?!?!? Oh dear, how can this be? Does art direction have something to do with the overall aesthetic of games? No, say it aint so!
agreed, when you complain about normal maps "ruining games" you sound like that old guy who complains about going from 2d sprites to 3D. I'm man enough to admit I'm not that great at normal maps, I'm not going to grumble about how it's ruining everything.
The sad part is that almost all of their stuff not only looks surreal and unappealing, but they also used alot of dark colors, grounded, pale, dull colors.
Basically, instead of us having brown and buff characters, what we got are pale, stretched and even over sexified characters with some really stupid clothing.
Trolls...not as good as they used to be back in my days.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go over there and tell him to shut up so that the thread never ever dies
It's entertaining and gives me something to do over lunch break.

Deleted the link.
With a weapon like that, trolls are just a brush of the arm.
Don't take it to heart luv! We all have brainfarts occasionally. Yeah...
Did you know clicking on the thumbs on your website doesn't work? Just links back to the main page...
Yea, I thought it was funny. I honestly didn't mean to upset anyone. ><
And yes, I'm currently reworking/re-rendering a lot of my pieces. It will be up and running this next week.

However, there is a nud-I mean 'new' thread you could have a good laugh from
It is certainly hilarious... he also dodged when someone asked 'Do you work in the industry?'
EDIT: Wow, this is HILARIOUS indeed. It's hilarious how he's being called out on the crappy art people found when searching for him.
unless its hilarious.
