I am creating a displacement map in 3d max using height map in the render to texture. How can I create my map and make the surface of the low poly mesh come out as black on my displacement map?
Whenever I create a map... say I have a single flat polygon with a few raised areas. On the generated height map, the flat area always comes out a light shade of grey with the raised areas going up through white to create the displacement. How can I change this so the flat area, the piece of geometry on the same plain as the low poly mesh I am trying to displace... comes out black? with the raised areas going up through darker shades of grey to create the displacement.
Infact it would be even better to be able to control what shade of black / grey the geometry on my high poly mesh closest to the plain of my low poly mesh is. This would allow black to be negative depth and anything going up to white positive depth.
I hope I have explained myself well enough
