Kind of surprised that I haven't seen any PolyCounters from Valve on here, especially considering the relationship between the PolyCount community and Valve itself!
I think they're being held under lock and without food till EP3 comes out while wearing about 20 different hats as punishment, they also have a nice cutout of Gabe next to them with a nice Trident, each one with a different piece of food on each end with text "No Food till Episode hits the Floor."
I've always sort of assumed Polycount had a ridiculous amount of lurkers. They're here, as are tons of others I'm sure, they're just not "active". Over the years I've come to view Polycount as more of a steady beacon, rather than a ridiculously active postfest where all the "cool" kids hang out during the day. A somewhat disproportionate amount of lurkers in comparison to posters is somewhat reflective of that nature.
And that's not a bad thing. In fact I wouldn't change it for anything. We've got the activity when it counts (Brawl anyone?).

I know a good few people at valve, and they are polycounters There are people here from all over, every studio in the world. It's one big dysfunctional family.
It's just a general discussion topic. It doesn't have to be of paramount significance. If a thread isn't important (or discussion worthy) you probably won't see it the next day.
Heh. I've always wanted to start a thread asking this question myself.
It makes sense they would lurk, I have assumed tons of people do. I know a bunch of people who frequent PC without posting (even though I urge them to post more often).
here in general talks people want to "blog" and post lolcat pic, so i dont think they want to admit where they work.
no j/k
well some of my friend from blizzard actually trying to be public relation, but he ended spoiling NDA's and asked to edit his post ... so not a good idea either .. -_-
let's not forget people might also not be all too eager to be seen as some semi-official voice of a studio on these boards. some studios also discourage this in their contracts.
typically i think it's more of a youngster's thing to go all out with a studio logo and some rockstar-signature anyway.
I imagine if anyone from Valve tried to show their face on here they'd be insta-swarmed with "Where's our F** Ep 3 Vavlie?!?!?" and then never come back.
I wouldn't be surprised if after the attention we got from Kotaku, some people are lurking, waiting to hear someone works 'somewhere big' and flood them with messages asking such and such.
I don't know, every time I've ever submitted "person X has made something really really cool and it should probably be given attention" stories to Destructoid it's gone ignored. I think if news of a recent hire would have drawn attention from the dirt sheets it would have happened by now with one of Polycount's many many Blizzard hirings.
