The cloud is a concept, your computer is just as much connected to the web too :P


But then again, I would hope for a company like dropbox to not do mistakes like this.

Yeah, but our computers aren't consolidated on one server. A hacker has to go a bit out of their way to target my computer. With the cloud, it's all centralized.

This is why I hate the cloud concept, when it comes to the idea of having my OS on it, like ChromeOS. I don't mind services like Dropbox, because I don't put anything on dropbox that is too personal.

Wasn't there a scandal recently, where Dropbox was found to be able to look at all our files hosted on their system? :P

other reason to not store stuff on the "cloud" (god I had that term, it's just a bloody server or server cluster anyway), is most services EULAs. It's just a lot of hassle to dig thru all the legalese to ensure you're still the owner of your data after you uploaded it to their service. Also you don't want them to index your data, share them with others, yadda yadda. It's just a bad idea to put anything really important there.
