Hi there. Currently working on this Ranger character amongst other things.
Here's my progress so far. Ignore the absence in detail for the left boot and sleeve cuff, I'll mirror them eventually. The hair is one of the biggest problems which is not looking natural enough. Let me know what you guys think.

suggestions:
add details to his cloak and leggings like Celtic designs and sewing
give him a gold cross around his neck
black gloves with white stitching
yellow-ish stitching on his boots
string for the arrow
quiver for his arrows
knife by his boot
extra rope around his shoulder cross-wise
Nice work so far, but the lack of small details (like n88tr mentioned) is letting it down. These extra details will help give the character some kind of personality and break up the symmetry.
To add to N88tr's list, maybe add a small red accessory/detail to the archers hat, this will compliment your chosen colour scheme and hopefully offset the strong green of the hat. Afterall, the head is often the most important area to add detail.
Thanks, SCB. I had planned on adding a red feather for the exact reasoning you mentioned, but since it would be an diffuse textured with an alpha map, it's not included here. I had hoped the diffuse painting would bring out more detail, but as you guys have pointed out, seems like more work on the height detail, normal mapping is needed. I was thinking it was more the fact that this is simply flat colour. Maybe a pattern around the belt might work too.
