Giffard the Ostrich Jouster

First off - apologies for the lack of ostrich so far, but he's coming! I was ready to start making this, then the brawl kicked off and ruined everything! But back on it now.

Meet Giffard, once the most renowned Jouster in the whole Great City, winning the kingdoms biggest tournament in over a century, knocking down the grand total of twenty eight rival knights in consecutive rounds.
That was over four years ago, the fame went to his head (along with fine ales and wines) and he can now be found stumbling around the taverns and whore houses in the lower city.
After countless bar brawls and encounters with the Queens Guard, Giffard is determined to clean up his act, saddle up his ostrich and go for glory once again.
Backstory isn't something I have really put too much thought into before. Hopefully it will help me get more character into Giffard.
The plan is to have two versions, one in normal day wear (which is the version i'm working on now, and why he doesn't look like a he's up for jousting yet
) and another where he's in full jousting gear, mounted on his ostrich I'm still working on the armoured concept. A friend at work may be doing a rival knight as well which would be awesome.
Enough text, heres some wips - Ostrich Sword is place holder and i've only just got the shoes in, which i'm currently working on.

Maybe it's just me, but the wrinkles on the sleeves look a little off and the hands are so big they look like they'd belong to an ogre.

Great overall modeling, cloth and anatomy and the number of accessories are not overboard either, ie, model covered in tons of squiggly shit.
I'm praying that you'll do some nice handpainted, clean textures for this fella to show off all that nice detail.

Thanks Martin, means a lot. To be honest I havent actually put any deep thought into the texture style. But I agree, some nice handpainted work might be the way to go! It'll be a nice addition to my folio as well. I reckon I'll texture the head + hat first and try nail the style on a small section first

It's been a while since I've posted anything, life got a bit crap and my priorities changed / motivation died. Buuut, back in the game baby! Worked on the low poly, should have it finished up, polished and ready for uv's soon enough
Also, Ae. is going to be doing some related work in Griffards universe, which I'm pretty excited about! But I'll let him explain that stuffs when he's ready.

Bake incoming.
Usually i like to make myself a concept sheet so i can easily see the different type of references that i am using in one place.
Everything is really early progress wise but i think this is gonna be a fun little project for me as i will be getting out of my comfort zone and trying to zbrush most if not all the assets. instead of just making hard surface models.

Ae. - Haha... Well I caved and got it on friday, so it's time to tag out for a bit
i blame BF3 for making me so lazy these past two weeks :P
With it being a bit bigger you would have more room to fit cool stuff like these barrels

Progress!
First dirty bake into Marmo! Cleaning up the bake over the next couple of evenings along with adding a cavity map and mesh fixes.
I'm pretty excited about texturing this bad boy..!
