So my sister has just finished college and moved to Chicago for five months for a working holiday. Apparently though the search for accomodation and work isn't going as well as she and her friends had planned... and I'm looking to help out a bit. Anyone living in the Chicago area; where would be the best place to look for work/accomadation in Chicago? Online, offline, doesn't matter. Anyone from the area know of anything going? She's smart, just finished a degree in business so she could even do an intern admin job in a games studio if there was something going... anyway, any help on this would be appreciated guys, don't like the thought of my little sis being stranded across the atlantic like this :(

Chicago is tough pickins right now at the moment. The only major studio hiring here off the bat for a level artist is NetherRealms (http://www.netherrealm.com/careers) but she would have to go through WB Corporate and that can be quite a process.

Phosphor Games, High Voltage. Wideload (and the remnants of Robo) are still here and several various arcade and casino (WMS) teams. Its worth while checking gamedevmap and subscribing to gamasutra jobs @ twitter for any available updates, however I will tell you that Chicago is probably very limited and selective.

Our team at Day 1 may be hiring in the future for modeling positions which I would be reviewing but there has been no word or go ahead from our HR. As it stands, maintaining a constant freelance availability and networking within the Chicago area will be key if its a must to be here in Chi town.

Good luck to her, pass me her portfolio and i'd be happy to make any suggestions or critiques for a good fit for her.

Cheers, she's not an artist though, she could only do things from the business side of things (said that in my first post). I was asking more in general terms, veeeery general terms lol. How did you find your accomodation in chicago? What websites should she be looking at, is there local newspapers? What's the situation in Chicago right now generally for employment (not studio based). Do you see many signs up in coffee shops etc. looking for staff. Do they even do that in the states?

Oh ok misunderstood. I'm pretty sure there are local listings, using a search engine that covers career opportunities would probably be the way i'd go (http://www.indeed.com/) Chicago Reader has postings and i'm sure there are local listings as well. Accomodation is really nice out here, public transit is the way to get around downtown and living in the near north neighborhoods are fantastic.
