An easy one, just re-pimping a "pimp my gun" combo i made, that site is fun. A member of the m16/m4 family... Check the site also, might be useful for 3D people for making concept ideas.
Been listening to Mt Eden Dubstep, he has a free EP on his youtube. Is nice.
Anyways, been working on this piece to take break from concepts and game stuff, inspire by his "Oh That I Had Track". Something different. Not sure if is finished yet.
couple of quick things-- on the hudson piece are you color sampling from the original? if you are then i'd recommend not doing so in the future. Tempting as it is to color sample from the reference piece, it usually doesn't work out well and more importantly stifles your own learning when it comes to color.
Also, use larger brushes. You started out nice and big on the Hudson piece but then you shoot into too small a brush too quickly. Keep with real big brushes and stay zoomed out for as long as you can to make sure that you have the general elements right before you start worrying about the details.
Last thing-- when you're doing a portrait study like this, take the time to sketch out the angle and tilt of the face. For example with the Hudson piece you have his head straight up whereas it's actually tilted to the viewer's right. Sketching it out and mirroring while you work will help you see this kind of stuff.
