Sci Fi lift inspiration

I'm concepting my first real sci fi thing, which I'm gonna make into a model afterwards.
Its a circular lift, just a floor really, no walls. With three columns on which it raises up and down on. It will be hidden/fit inside an old medieval well.
I'm trying to make it look sci fi-y, mayeb a little bit military or industrial. But I am struggeling for inspiration.
I love Kevin Johnstone's stuff, anyone know where he gets his inspiration for the sci fi stuff from?
Also any suggestions for good keywords for google or flikr? Or any websites?
