Weird Stitching Problem

Using Max 2011 student version, while editing UVW I sometimes get this problem (left is before hitting my stitch selected hotkey, right is after:

This will also happen using any other method of stitching (button/dialogue box]. Tried collapsing stack back to editable poly, tried resetting xform, tried exporting to FBX and reimporting... This has happened for two separate models and occurred on two separate machines, a laptop and a desktop.

I donno what to do. PLZ HALP

Any Mirrored or overlapping uvs? In polygon mode, goto select inverted faces or select overlapping faces to check. Are you sure thats only 1 edge you have selected? If you have a small chamfer or an edge loop right next to another loop, try relaxing it out or manually space them before stitching.

it looks to me like maybe the small square piece is flipped.

The same thing happens a lot when using the bridge tool while modeling...have you tried welding verts instead of edges?

Select that little uv shell piece, and flip it vertically, then try sewing that edge again. Should work.
