Recreate Zelda - Ocarina of Time

Hi,

I am new in the website, but I've been forwarded here by one of my friends. Thank you for welcoming me to your great community. Here is the topic I want to share with you:

I was starting to work on a project to recreate Zelda Ocarina of Time, same story, but with different engines and better environements. Also, I wanted it to be more mature, and darker. And I have no skills on designing 3D environnements, even though I have been trying to get used to it for a few weeks (Maya, which is completly out of my reach, and UDK, more simple but still). On the other hand, I can draw modifications to existing environements or characters, like artworks if you want.
I know this is really a big thing, and that it could last a very long time, but as I'm wandering in Hyrule, I can't thing about anything else than how great the game would look like with high graphics...
Anyway I'm looking for interested and motivated people, motivated because I have no money to offer.
I hope this won't seem too crazy...

Thanks in advance.

    Hey Jeremy,

I my self am a huge Zelda fan and have recently begun creating a few props and assets from the Kakariko Village(my favorite place). I'm currently a recent graduate so my skills in 3Ds Max are still improving as time goes on. But I like the feel and style you are trying to go for and would be more than happy to collaborate on an Ocarina face lift. Feel free to shoot me an email at vandornj(at)gmail.com or message me on steam by adding the same email address.

You could help these guys. http://www.indiedb.com/games/the-legend-of-helga-zelda-oft-remake

but just so you know, all of these get a cease & desist once released or close to it. In fact, you can find examples on that same site. You'd be best to make an original concept based similar gameplay.

cholden is right, Chrono Trigger Ressurrection is a prime example of someone just 'creating' the game but in 3D and being shutdown with threats of a lawsuit by Square Enix.

Re-creating games without permission that already exist are very risky, definitely cholden's advice to make a similar game or base it but not copy is probably the better route :) Seems thats what the other team trying to do this had to do!

    good luck!

Unless you change one letter, Like Legend of Zemda. THEY'LL NEVER KNOW!!!! Not.

Seconding cholden's advice. There's nothing more worse than making your effort feel like a massive waste of time lost forever when that "stop or i'll sue" hits.

On a slightly unrelated note - I wouldn't say UDK is a good place to start to learn modeling, it's pretty unrelated and is only there for the models to go into and set up gameplay aspects. Using the bsp brushes to build objects is far from 3D modeling, so stick to maya (or as many here would probably suggest - 3DS max) and learn to model from the ground up, once you get a solid foundation move on to zbrush, UDK comes last.

Finally I fourth the don't waste time making a game that exist like that, you could do it if you were only hoping to play it by yourself and never be able to share with anyone and keep it a secret from the rest of the world haha.
