My fighter is going to be a punk kid/teen version of Akuma. This is my first post here, and I don't have much to show yet but hopefully I'll have time to start going into detailed concept sketches soon. Thanks!
Another day of sculpting down. It's really hard to concentrate on getting this high poly done when Portal 2 is sitting on my desk calling to me :poly122:
I've decided that I'm going to do something different with his hair. Not sure what yet, but the DBZ spikes aren't working for me. Maybe I'll go more Akuma like.
Got some time to change a few things this weekend. I felt that his face looked a little to innocent to be Akuma, so I fixed that. I also changed the hair style. Obviously still WIP, but I think I'm finally happy with the proportions and such.
Cool, I was worried about losing the Akuma quality with the different hair. I'm wandering if I'll have enough poly budget to keep the prayer beads in there once I go low poly. We'll see I guess...
MasteroftheFork: Thanks, I'm glad you said that. Honestly, goggles just seemed like one of those things that you put on the head of a teen character... I didn't really put much thought into it haha.
Dustinbrown: Thanks for the critique. I've noticed that some of the cloth folds are unnatural. I'll try to push that as I finish it up. As for the anatomy, I'm not too sure about what to fix, besides the biceps looking unusually square... To me it kind of fits with the style. I do think his pose is almost as if he's taking a deep breath, but I figured I could fix that in the low poly. Any specifics you could spare would help a ton.
I see what you mean about the mouth area crazyfingers. I'm pretty confident I can fix that in the texture, but I'll try to smooth it out a bit just to see how it looks
God, going back and looking at pictures of my early stages makes me want to delete them. This is actually my first real project in Zbrush. I've done quick head sculpts and such but never a full character. My brain is overloaded from learning too much :poly127:

Ravenslayer - Thanks, I agree it does have a Naruto feel to it. I noticed that about half way through and just decided to go with it haha.
Sculpting day 1 is over. He kind of looks like a creepy baby alien right now... hopefully that improves as I progress

Figured I'd post an update. I've blocked out most of the clothes and gear. If I get a chance I'll start detailing tomorrow.

There's still a few issues that I have with it, but I should probably move on if I'm going to finish in time.
You should simplify his mouth area/ expression. If you cover his head and leave just the mouth it looks more like that of an elderly woman.

I still have quite a bit of work to do on the textures, but I think I got the color scheme like I wanted.
Figured I'd put together some of my references to show. Better late then never
Very nice research of style, lots of storytelling to your character. The colors brings him to life, great work!
