I somehow did not see that another telephone was in progress in this section of the forums, but luckily, this is a rotary telephone and not an old timey telephone like what's going on in the other thread.

My objective is to create as realistic looking an item as possible. Please leave suggestions and critiques as I go--I will probably need them. Thanks!

@Mark, Hey thanks, though now I'm having differences because I would like to have a spiral cord like in the reference, and how wired telephones are traditionally seen (obviously), but I can't seem to come to terms with the shape of the thing without the triangle count just blowing out of reasonable numbers. Any thoughts on this? I guess I could go without it.

Yea spiral cords are murder on tri counts, but if you bunch it together you can use just a cylinder and a normal map. The one you have in the reference looks like its seen better days, its been stretched out and is possibly a replacement cord so it might be newer than the rest of the phone.

I would probably skip it and go with a straight cord unless it was really necessary to have a coil and even then bunch it up in parts or in whole to save on tris.

Thanks mark, I decided to end up going with a triangular tube cord--can't win everything. Here's some base texture work, still not entirely satisfied.
