Maya Weight Painting problem.

Hey guys I am having a huge problem with weight painting in maya. On certain joints, when i paint black to remove any influence on the vertices, one of the verticies will snap straight down to the centre of the grid (0,0,0) and does not react to anything but a pure white value (in which it goes back to its normal position) - anything in between does not create any influence on it at all.

Ive tried deleting history and such but to no avail, and even re did the skeleton three times, but each time a single vertex will snap to the middle of the grid. Its not on just one joint either, each time i re did the skeleton, a different joint ( and sometimes the same ones) would do the same thing.
Why does it hate me?
