Just heard about this contest and signed up for Polycount on the spot!

Going for a futuristic badass killer redesign of Sub Zero. Less Magic, more Android, what I'd like to see in the upcoming movie. The cold, heartless, serial killer vibe with an experimented soldier look, rather than traditional ninja.

Going to be concepting this entire week because that is my weakest area. Lots of variations to make, care about this character and don't wanna mess him up.

I was so excited when I heard about this contest that I started doodling on my iphone so here's that version first -

Here's another Concept with a hooded jacket, I like this silhouette a lot, but I'm thinking I'm going to do a complete redesign to make it more cyborg.

I think you're missing some of the more iconic shapes that make Sub Zero recognizable. A has the loincloth but you're missing the blue V shape.



The squareness of the shapes can really work with your concept too.

Thanks MattQ86. I agree, It wasn't feeling like Sub Zero. Spent some time thinking about it and here's the new design, more futuristic and robotic but a lot more Sub Zero now! I think I'm going to run with this one.

Step 1: Base Meshes for sculpting. Blocked out proportions.

Step 2 - Base Sculpting and adding Mech Parts. I like doing both at the same time, when I get tired of poly modeling I sculpt and vice versa.
Loin Cloth and shoulder pads will be added later.

hehe, did you et the idea for the back from the 'anti-freeze' backpiece in DC universe online? This design looks great either way and is easily the best looking sub-zero on here so far.

Thanks for the compliments! Bad week, no time, and I just landed a big gig so even less time to come Hope to finish. Here's some more base detailing. Tweaked the proportions. Haven't even gotten to the arms yet...

15 hours straight freelancing daily doesn't leave much time or energy for personal work. Doubt I'll make the deadline.

Did some low poly tests to figure out the tubes and straps. Also deciding whether to have pants for his legs.

Hey dude, nice concept and progress so far, yeah, time flies and no time for personal work sucks, hehe. Anyway, maybe you could check his legs, they look a bit out of proportions, considering his torso, maybe is his waist that is too thin.

Well, finally finished my freelance work, but lost 2 weeks in the process. I need another week of just modeling on my Sub-Zero (my own fault cuz I keep redesigning his mech parts) so its doubtful that I'll finish by Friday.

Shame, he's really starting to come together now. I'll try to finish in the coming weeks, here's a sculpting update.

Wow, huge improvement. Quick suggestion, you could tone down the "pipework" in his midsection, i feel my eyes drawn to his stomach a bit too much. His anatomy's a little odd but in a good way, gives him an eerie quality, but you may want to touch up his bicep, looks a bit too odd.

Congrats to all of the guys who finished on time. Since the contest is over, theres no rush to finish it now, so rethinking the concept and playing around so I can make it good!

Thanks guys! I'm still at it making some big changes but I've got a definite direction now. Retopod the hard-surface and made arms and legs. Just got a full-time job so it's hard to get as many hours in a row but I'm going to try my best to make him portfolio worthy. I'm loving and hating going so slow with this but its only my second game character so It's a great learning experience.

Sorry Kosh, Only able to work on this a couple nights a week now so going slow and steady. Still deciding on overall look. Think he might work better without a shirt. Thanks for the crits,you guys are spot on.
