Game Project at Vienna University of Technology seeking for 2D/3D Artists

Pontification

Brief description:
Pontification shall provide a unique and addictive game play within the niche market of side scrolling games. The background story should be humorous and satirical and make fun of certain dogmas of the catholic church like the films “Dogma” or “The Life of Brian” but without hurting anybodies feelings. It shall also be a bit precarious, so people notice it. This shall be mixed with the engaging and pleasant characters of Disney films.

It shall be a short portfolio project, therefore we are aiming for 5 to 10 minutes of game play to make sure we can finish it until 20th of June. It has been in development for one month where the GDD has been created and the code framework has been set up. The game is part of the lecture Computer Graphics 2 at the Vienna University of Technology (www.tuwien.ac.at). (Former games can be found here: http://www.cg.tuwien...Fame/index.html)

Pontification is a side scrolling game but making use of modern 3D graphics similar to Trine. It also provides a unique game play, where everything is about possessing and changing your character. This provides a mixture of classical arcade game play and challenging riddles. The game will provide obstacles which one can only overcome when inhabiting the right character. The player has to scout the situation and than make appropriate decisions about the right possessing sequence to progress within the game. There are certain abilities which support the player achieving her goals. One will learn and improve those abilities when progressing within the game. Every ability costs a specific amount of energy when used, but the energy remaining at the end of the game will make up your score. If the player has made a wrong decision regarding one of the challenging riddles, she can progress the game by using her abilities but has than to face a loose of score as consequence.

Target aim:
Academic project (Freeware).

Compensation:
The only thing we can offer is reputation. All the work you contribute will be credited and you can use the project after it's finished for your portfolio. It's also possible to extend and enhance the project after the dead line. The best three game projects of the lecture of this semester will be shown to professional developers like Sproing (www.sproing.com) or GreenTube (www.greentube.com).

Talent needed:

  • Environment Artists - Filling the level blueprints with life and support the Environment 3D-Artist
  • Character Artists - Creating all the needed characters and do artworks for the 3D-Artists
  • Environment 3D-Artists - Creating the 3D-Environment, like the it self or other assets like doors, altars etc...
  • Character 3D-Artists - Creating the character meshes needed and texture them. Optional also doing skeletal animations
  • Animation Artist - Creating skeletal animations for the characters

We do NOT seek any programmers. We are only allowed to use 3rd party artist work!

Background-Story:

Murmur is one of the suns of hell, but he has been always different to his brothers. Ne never grew these enormous bat wings or impressive horns like his brothers, for some reason he always stayed in this little chubby form, which is clearly not a good appearance within the circles of hell, where everybody relies on muscles or how big your horn is. Therefore his brothers always made fun of little Murmur, tortured him at any given opportunity and his father Lucifer just watched them. He didn't hide the fact that he is very disappointed of him and mostly ignored his wishes and complaints. One they as he was hiding from his brothers, within one of the deeper circles of hell, where all the hypocrites are tortured, as suddenly a small rift between the world appeared. Murmur glimpsed through crack and saw a huge cellar filled with naked statures. “I know this place from the time I was alive”, suddenly Karol some of the newcomers stated. “This is the cellar of the Vatican” he rumbled and turned away. Should he believe this old man, he thought but on the other hand he has nothing to loose and he is the only one small enough to fit through this small rift except for the minions but they are mindless beasts. He could possess the pope of the catholic church and throw in into turmoil. Suddenly one of his older brothers Asmodeus appeared. He quickly jumps through the closing rift, hearing the furious roar of his brother behind him. Murmur travelled through the dimensions and suddenly hit the cold floor of the Vatican’s cellar. His journey is about to begin…
