I'm still trying to find a cheaper way to set up my portfolio site. Carbonmade is fine but I can't show a resume link. Can anyone tell me if they know any good blogger or Wordpress portfolio tutorials?
Thanks man! I luv your blog. I'm not a fan of scrolling down gallery however. Is there anyway I can make a gallery that is fixed centered using clickable thumbnails?
I think wordpress gives you a lot more control over pretty much everything. Wordpress evolved so much you can almost make full blown web-pages with it, but you can still make very simple blogs too.
Obviously, you would need your own hosting, whereas with blogger there's none of those problems.
Shitty thing about blogger is how it changes the language accordingly to the country you're at in the moment. I'm in Germany, so the website assumes I know German.
Does wordpress have a "Follow" function like blogger has?
I've seen some impressive sites with wordpress but I know zero code. I've been thinking about making a proper website and wordpress is probably the way i'd go.
I'm interested in this too but I can't see your signature, Stinger88. I tried searching for it in the control panel options but I never managed to find it. Could somebody please tell me how to view signatures?
Btw, some people say you need some coding skills for wordpress, I beg to differ really.
The only struggle you *might* have with it, is setting up the MySQL db, but even for that you have step by step guides on wordpress.com, so really it's a very straightforward process to put wordpress on your hosting, and it opens doors to way more stuff than blogger or anything else can offer, for free!
Thank you for all the suggestions. I have a blogger portfolio up but I will try wordpress as well. Thanks!
Great stuff. Looks familiar :P
@ Hawken: "But yeah blogger < tumblr. Blogger is fast becoming dead."
One of the main reasons I use blogger is because of the "follow" function. I know tumblr has this as well but I think all the artists I want to follow are using blogger. In fact i'm not really sure I've visited too many artists blogs that are on tumblr. Unless I'm not looking in the right places.
Is this the case? Not many industry peeps use tumblr?
There are two faces when comparing blogger to wordpress as they capitalized on their strengths which could be seen as non-existent to the other. Blogger has introduced a collection of easy to customize templates opposed to wordpress inability to edit templates. If you also want to apply your css, you would need to have a paid upgrade. It all boils down to what you are aiming for your blog, if you want easy access to tools concerning traffic and not much on storage, then go for blogger. Otherwise, go to wordpress' path.
wordpress on dreamhost -> one button install...literally. Couldn't be easier. So if you signed up with Dreamhost via the Polycount thread, just go wordpress!
I coded my own blog with the help of a friend. Just need to put in the pagination script and it will be pretty groovy. No follow function obviously. I shall work on doing an RSS feeder though.
I think wordpress will really be the better choice between the two. It makes for unlimited customization making it easier for you to apply themes and all those added features. I think the same can be seen with blogger but still, a lot of work has to be done with it to be comparable with wordpress.
Tumblr looks good also but has not been in ht upper tier of choices at least up to now.
My portfolio website is made with Weebly. It's super easy to create a page. There's a built in gallery node, and I use a few custom HTML nodes. I don't have a premium account, I have a free account.

EDIT: Nevermind. I didn't see the second link
How did you get those link buttons (resume, portfolio, etc) positioned like that in your blog?
if not, blogger.
also if you are using Awesome inc (or other template) go to:
Dashboard > Design > Template Designer
to tweak the pages and layout, etc.

I bought my URL with a different (cheaper) service and set it up to point to the weebly page. But you can buy a URL straight from Weebly.
