I was thinking i need to pick a character thats not allready well rounded.
Karin is one of those that had potential, but was just put in as a Sakura clone/rival, so i thought i would give it a go at making her more unique or interesting looking.

I want to take it in a sort of different direction, maybe going for something more goth looking or 'emo'.. street fashion etc..

Spent a few days collecting ref and coming up with ideas, post a board asap

nice choice, the whole emo/goth thing will be quite the switch up for her character. Witch hunter Robin would probably be another good thing to look at.

Great choice. I used to play a lot with her on SFA. Funny char. A goth visual will be great. I'll keep on eye here.

Great choice - have you checked out the Fruits books? Might be a good place to get more mood ideas.

Very rough concept, im not happy with it really, but its a start, Please excuse the crappy manga style
Really unsure about the hair, the original has ringlets, not sure about the style...
Dress is a bit bland... loads of problems really.

Looking good mate! I think legs and torso are working, i like the big goth boots with the high socks. And changing out the gloves for bandages works with the goth style.

But agree with you about the dress looking a bit bland, mainly the bottom bit. Looking at your reference, the one thing they all seem to have is layers. Maybe have a smaller skirt on top of the dress or a lace petticoat underneath? Also the corset is a bit short, they normally go from boob to hip pinching at the waist.

As for the hair, i'd be tempted to keep the ringlets to tie it back to the original design design of karin, but then change the colour to black to suit the goth style.

Gotta show some more skin. Sexy goth girls are well...typically quite revealing in their attire. The whole, electric tape over the nipples thing (not that it would work for the character, just a happy thought). Darker eyeliner. Instead of the corset stopping right below her breasts you should have it up a little higher giving her a "boost" as it were. I believe that is the point of it, that and to slim the waist I believe. How about fingerless gloves that goth's enjoy wearing? Needs some silver in there as well I think. Chains and studs and whatnot.

looks sweet man...im kinda diggin the simplicity, but these guys are probably right that it should be a little more flashy in some way for the contest. the original was pretty simple and symmetrical, so, i dunno... psyched to see how it turns out

Another interesting thing about the original is that she looks like she has sports wear under her clothes - sports bra and cycling shorts.

It might be cool to incorporate that somehow, like giving her frilly bloomers under the skirt.
