For the purpose of critique, could you also post larger pictures of your sculpt(s)?

I think the design and pose is great. Reminds me of the art I've seen for One Piece (haven't scene it, so this could be a character from it for all I know :P )

What it's lacking in is refinement. A good basis for your details and shapes is there, but a polish pass would really help bring out what you've got there. E.g. detailing the ropes and where they enter the fabric on his bag, or defining his muscles, or the shapes of his hands.

You're also missing alot of folds for the fabric. On his pants, many cloth lines would from the knee to the crotch as the fabric stretches. For his shirt, there would be some bunching at the shoulders and where his shirt is tucked into his pants.

If you're trying to keep the cartoony style for the details, try referencing the art of Airborn (http://www.moddb.com/mods/airborn) for some idea's on how to handle that. Or just Neox's work in general http://polyphobia.de/html/wordpress/

I think you'd also have an easier time of sculpting things in the future if you have separate pieces for your different mesh elements, just as you have the weapon of the character as a separate piece

Character is from Wakfu, the cartoon by the makers of the MMORPG Dofus :

Since it's a very cartoony character I didn't add so many wrinkles and textures.

Also thanks for the critique and links.

I must confess that save for the shovel and base, I sculpted him out of a sphere, which might not me so moutch of good idea...
