I'm sorry to tell you but I'm pretty sure streets of rage isn't allowed.
Although I think it's stupid, apparently those are the rules. I recommend you ask the admins, before you continue.

Im not positive but seeing as SOR 3 had a versus mode similar to standard fighting games as well i dont see why it wouldnt be okay.

started to work on the shoulder detail still alot to go though, i want it to appear functional so i have been jotting down a few drafts while at work today.

Also been thinking about how to set him apart more from the original and im thinking an illuminous green mankini.

    Again all done in ZB

Sorry to be anal, but does "fighting game" exclude "Beat 'em Up" games?

So for an example, Street Fighter, but not Streets of Rage?

ANSWER: Beat 'Em Ups are not being considered a 'Fighting Game' for this contest.

I think that only games in this list are allowed:

Nice hard surfaces modelling, by the way ;)

Cheers for the heads up guys

Im hoping my entry falls under the below

The game I chose to redesign a character from (Joy Mech Fight) is an odd duck. It has different modes of play, one of which is aclassic cliche one on one fighter a la Street Fighter, but there's also a mode that is somewhat like Final Fight. Since it has the one on one mode, is it acceptable?

ANSWER: As Joy Mech Fight has a traditional fighting mode, and is classified as a "Fighting Game", it is acceptable.

didnt get alot done tonight too busy with other junk, bring me the weekend

I would really make sure by asking in the question and answer topic if i were you.
Because the main difference between Joy Mech Fight and Street of Rage is that the first one fall under fighting game category on wikipedia while street of rage is classified as "a side-scrolling beat 'em up".

little known fact i read in a book about streets of rage, Zan was actually forced to eat his own hands by Mr X, good job i made him some new ones.

That hand came out ace man. In fact your mechanical modeling is so far beyond your organics and anatomy you way want to consider making this guy more a robot than cybord. The pelvic and butt regions look particularly odd in the side shot (looks like he's got some weird cyber junk hanging out front).

i think you need to post this over at zbrushcentral when you're done. how many subtools is it so far?

Lroy just checked and am now up to the magical 150 mark, with a combined total of 20 million polys, looks like im gonna have to do some decimating. Took your advice and I now have a post ongoing over on zbc as well, btw i was looking at your model on there earlier nice work.

Cheers for the comment Crazyfingers, Zan is actually a cyborg the only humanoid part remaining is the head which ill show off tomorrow if i pull my finger out. I should have mentioned earlier ignore the ass in the previous shot all the lighter coloured material is just the concept which i am working on top of.

Speaking of ass here is the new one

    assnlg.jpg

Zan is a very literal person he actually keeps his junk in his trunk (along with a built in speaker)

looks really nice my only concern is the joint (where the elbow would be), right now it looks a little plain and dosent look like it could function very organically. Awesome stuff tho, out of curosity how long did the hard surface take u in zbrush?

    Cheers for the comments guys

cmcisaac you are totally right about that elbow i completely overlooked it, i could add some more details but i am happy with the shape, its odd but i think it works with the outline. To make it more functional i could drop it down some but it would mean moving all the subtools on the lower arm which is a total pain but i will do it at some point.

In relation to the hard surface stuff in ZB for me it is a total game changer if you want to see it done by a real pro i suggest taking a look at Mike Jensons DVD, I didn't start with a concept just some vague ideas in my head of what i wanted to do and i am finding although that perhaps isn't the best way to go as it leads to mistakes like the elbow you mentioned working solely in zbrush gives me far more control to test things than i had when hard surfacing in XSI or Max.

Its not perfect though sometimes zb requires me to really work to get the shape i want having to remesh and make awkward clips. Its really hard to put a time frame on it to be honest.

    Okay update time

    zan2s.jpg

At this stage other there are a few areas im not happy with that i want to try and fix which are the pecs and armpits.

Not sure if im going mental on this one, you ever get it where you are detailing something and you look at it from a different perspective and see something totally different.

    Evil techno clown?

Right im gonna grab a beer.

Update time, pretty much done with the high poly, i could have gone crazy adding more surface detail but im not sure it would have come through in the end so i will leave it as is.

pretty happy overall although there are quite a few areas i think could have used some improvements, Which i will mention later when i get some more time.

As per before this is 100% zbrush no other apps were used other than photoshop to comp render layers.

texture and colours are not indication of final model just placeholder.

Please tell me what you think it will be appreciated.

Great hard surface stuff. I feel like his silhouette is a big funky though, the arms look frail compare to his giant torso. Maybe see how it looks with a bit more beefy forearms? Plus the hands are really nice you'd be able to show them off more.

I have had a long hard think about it and i am at a crossroads, i can see their are faults with the model at this stage I have attempted to experiment with elements and altogether it hasn't worked out oddly i think the main problem is perhaps it is a really dull design, not having textured it yet doesn't help but its more than that looking at it particularly the chest region is reminiscent of Robocop which is such an outdated design.

i could resolve this by adding some additional details to these areas extra sub tools to chest and arms add some patterns to the rubber bendable mid section fix back of thighs, however i think the problems are greater than this there is also issues with the silhouette which is harder to fix. I have attached an image below showing potentially what i could do to resolve this as well. (image on far right is the amended one)

Ultimately though i am not sure there is any point, this entry clearly is not worth looking at or commenting on and i am not sure it warrants the extra effort attempting to finish.

yeah, your overall silhouette does need work, and that is hard to change. did you do some sort of base sculpt for size reference? I find that is often handy.
your hard surface stuff in zb is KILLER tho!
his elbows need something tho, they look rather empty and flimsy.

and if you're gonna ditch the lowpoly and not finish the competition, at least finish your sculpt!

and if you need some ideas, just pull them out of his ass ;)

Confracto cheers for the response it is much appreciated, i started with a concept mesh but only for the chest which is a mistake i wont make again.

I took your advice on board and gave it another shot, added some additional details and tweaked the legs. On your advise i completely changed the arms made all new elbow section, increased the size of the hands, moved everything inwards and widened everything.

The silhouette isnt perfect but its mainly only the legs that are letting it down now so once he has been posed that should be resolved.

Please let me know what you think.
