Sketchbook: Austin O'Brien

Hey all,

First of all, I know I'm not going to be great at this (at first at least). I'm 15, and have had little experience with 3D modelling, but hopefully with this sketchbook I can improve. As well, my art skills are lacking, something I hope to work on, but unfortunately, the availability of courses at my school are a bit useless, so I'm all self-learnt.

Secondly, I want honest, open, critisicm. Part of the reason this is here, is so that I have a record of progression, but also because I believe critique from others is one of the best ways I can improve.

That means that I want people to tell me what is wrong with my pieces, and in turn (hopefully), what I can do to improve them. If anyone has some ideas as to where I should go to learn more about the work I am doing, say something, because I am really eager to learn more, and I'm happy to trawl through several pages worth of content if I can learn a few extra snippets.

And now to begin!

So here's the first batch of renders and screenshots - a pirate map where I wanted to see what sort of results I could get without using any textures (just materials) in blender, a skull because originally I couldn't get the proportions for the head right (and I still can't), and two variations of a face I modeled. Again, the proportions are off, but not sure where, will have to have a good look over them in a few days when school settles back into normality.

Had some free time, and I'm really enjoying using Zbrush, gave a face model another go, but I keep getting stuck on the mouth and looking at it now I realise I need to fix lots of things. Feel free to offer comments and crits.

I gave Sketchbook Pro a go today - a bit clunky with a mouse, but it's better than nothing. Quite good fun, trying to emulate Jouste's style but I get a feeling it's not going to happen :P
