Alright, I'm the most indecisive mofo you're ever likely to meet, but I think I've finally got something I want to try. http://img860.imageshack.us/img860/4757/cammycate.jpg
Essentially, I want to do a pulp 60s spy movie version of Cammy from Street Fighter. Her background story says shes a British agent for the MI6 subsection Delta Red, so it seems like a natural progression to give her a retro James Bond-esque makeover. http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/2873/refboardsml.th.jpg
i like the idea, but i think you'll lose a lot of her personality if you put her in the 60s. I mean, she's a chick in the special forces. Not exactly your little fragile china doll. Though I do love me some austin powers....hmm.
It'll be tricky, but I think workable. I think the blue uniform might be easier to translate. With it's high neck, shoulder pads and pill box hat it's already a little bit retro. The stripy patterning on the legs could be developed into patterns on stockings. The hair shouldn't be too hard to tweak into something a bit more 60s. Beyond that it'll be just a matter of playing around with the different features until they work.
I think the idea's great. The prompt is to take a character and go in an entirely different direction with it, not just make a new skin, essentially. Change it up! Make it your own!
Alright, as is traditional in all of these competitions, I'm not really feeling my initial idea.
Inspired somewhat by Lackadaisy Cats, I'm now leaning more towards a 1920s flapper style. It looks like it'll have some fun options in both the costume design and stylisation departments.
I'll probably make her a speak-easy owner in prohibition America (I guess she immigrated) or something with a bit of a tougher edge to it so she's a little more than just a girl with fancy clothes and hair.
Assuming I haven't gone of this idea by then, I'll have some images up after work tomorrow.
Most of this is knocked together really quickly and roughly just to see whether the idea is going to work. I think with a bit more development it just might.
Everything here is very much subject to change. The dress design will almost certainly be entirely different for a start.
Time for a quick update. Got sick of noodling about with concepts
Still trying to decide exactly what to do with the hair/hat. I think what I've got at the moment looks ok, or will once it's a bit more refined, but it's not very flapper-like, mostly because that look is partly defined by having short hair. I'll add some spit curls to the part and some kind of fancy hat pin and see how I go. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Alright, had a bunch of stuff going on and haven't had much of a chance to work on this thing. Thought I might just knock something quick, simple and stylised out in the week or so remaining using what little I already have. Chances are I still won't get thing thing done, but you never know.
Playing with proportions. Will probably do a pass with the polish and clipping brushes next and simplify the whole thing.
I dunno if this even qualifies as a redesign now, but I'm mostly doing it for a laugh.

Will try and get a concept up today.

Different era but I reckon you can get some good ideas by checking them out.
Nice concepts/themes.
