[FIGHTER] Guilty Gear, May, Ithoual

Hi, I really don't play Fighting games so i picked up the firts i saw, May from guilty gear :] .

I'd like to keep the same concept ( girl, pirate, anchor ,orange ) and just remake the character my way with a design a bit different . It's kinda hard to explain because it's not really based on a universe or an era.

I'm in LOVE with the pose of her leaning as she stands on the anchor, I've always liked the idea of a character standing or being able to use their gigantic weapons as supports and such. I like where you're taking it, seems a bit more Asia than pirate, which is enough of an interpretation to me. Keep at it!

EDIT: And a side note - dem legs. That is all.

Circle of friends : Yeah actually i wanted to keep the " hard parts " from the original design but i didn't want to make the small thing on her forearm (and i like asymmetric characters) so at first i thought about only one big protection on the left arm instead of two small on both arms. Then i thought it could be interesting to upscale a bit the anchor and give her a big gauntlet to handle that. For now it's not enough clear i have to work on that or find another idea to recycle the armor parts.

Boon : Yeah i didn't want to make a casual sexy girl and the big anchor fit well with a muscular girl, not ugly but a little too much, and i thought about Chun-Li for the morphology. I took her shoes too because i wanted to have a timeless feeling on the design (and it really looks cool :] ).

Hi! Small update, I'm still working on the concept. I've removed the gauntlet to put back a simple (but big) protection on the arm. I've also worked a little on the clothes to make the " pirate " theme more present. I still have to work on the face I'd like her to look younger. Thx for feedback !

The mecca is very solid in the latest update, (I love that weapon) The major shapes are great, maybe try to intergrate similar mecca patterns (the dots) within the shoes to reinforce the mecca style


you could also make some hair variations, because hair is a good feature of the original design. looking foward to the 3d version

So good! Can you do anything more engaging with the shapes of the skirt? It's the one thing i think stands out as inferior to the original.

This is looking awesome! I love the big protector. I think the anchor could use a little more 'thickness' but I like it's design so far. I echo SupRore in his suggestion with the skirt too.

The hair need to be worked on for sure, i was kinda lazy about that but now you talked about it it's also a big part of the base concept. I'll make research on the skirt too :].

really lovin the pirate feel of her. you really made her look mediteranean. and your render is lovely. i think though that her color scheme is a bit bland in comparison to the original character. also i agree about making hair variations. her do is a bit plain as well.

Hi, Thx for the feedbacks, I've started the body to have a base mesh to work on, I'm not used to work on Zbrush so if you have advices about the anatomy it'll be welcome . I'll make research about the hairs , the robe, color theme and the block mesh now.

The 3d is coming along very nicely! Has a good mix of stylization and natural feel. I do think the belt feels too bulky in your paintover. I think your original concept feels better in that area.

Hi, I've started the blockmesh to work on the main shape, I've worked a little the robe and added few " plate " element to have a bit more volume. I still have to work on that. With the equipment i begin to think I'll have to make her legs even more muscular to make it readable. I've started to think about the airstyle too but I'll try to fix the body shape first.

Awww nice man! The only tiny thing bothering me is hips placement/proportions, play with that a tad more, a bit higher maybe so the curves look more feminine in the front view.

Other than that, it is alive and arse-kicking, good job!

Hi! I've worked on the anatomy as you said, I'm not used to do girls so that was a bit "male ".

I've changed the robe design, I wanted to have a more " sportswear " feeling so I've tried to make something like the tennis-women skirt. I've started to work on the high rez modelling while i finish the blockmesh, for the Armor and the hair mostly. And after all that I'll start on the Anchor ! That's damn long :]

Hi! I've worked the face a little to give her an expression a bit more closer to the original May ! I still have to work on that, she looks like a bit older now ,and I'd like to push a little bit the evil side of the smile (if someone can help me on that I'd be really grateful).

I've also made the Anchor. I'll can start the baking soon i think!

Great shapes here. Loved your concepts. I feel that the anchor has lost some of the dynamics that you had in your concept. I would taper the end of it more, make it a little longer, and make the head bulkier and more powerful looking like in your concepts. I also feel that the (hand guard?) is throwing it off balance. I looks like it would get in the way of properly holding the weapon. The anchor's size makes it just as important as the character in this piece so spend some time and make it look as awesome as the character. Also, ponytail armor FTW!
