Hi all.

Like few other people here, I've never been a huge fan of fighting games, but I've watched how my brother played MK games, so it was the first thing I looked into. At first I was thinking about the Dead Pool, but found something more interesting (for me ) - Reptile's Lair.

First, some quotes taken from MK Wiki:

Reptile's Lair made its appearance in Mortal Kombat 4, and reappeared in both games Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.

It made its own reappearance as a walkthrough area as well as a fighting arena in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. It's located in a cave within the eerie Living Forest of Outworld.

I really like the idea of giant eggs, but everything else will be reimagined. I'm thinking about something more lair-ish. In MKA this place doesn't look like a lair to me. So I'm gonna emphasize the cave part from the quote.

quick sketch, just exploring ideas for now. I think it needs something like centerpiece, but anyway gonna do more of these.

hey man theres a cool alien versus preadator scene that reminds me of this. Theres a shrine full of face hugger eggs lined up. its hard to find scenes from that movie but its good refrence

Thanks for comments Funny thing about centerpieces and focal points is that they are meant to draw your attention. This is something you don't want in a fighting game, I suppose. But for the sake of this competition, I'm gonna dismiss that argument, and I'll do my best. More pics are coming, just busy with work stuff.

I was wondering about that too actually. If it's just for a portfolio render, obviously a focal point would be great, but this competition specifically is supposed to be "make game art" rather than "make poster art." So does that include design decisions, like making certain the environment doesn't fight with the fighters?

Looking nice either way, can't wait to see more!

Well since you wont have characters in fighting (as far as I know, didnt read the rules thoroughly), it'd be better to have one imho, as it might feel quite monotonous without.

Agreed, any art piece needs it focal point. I suppose the first thing you want your audience to notice is the fighting area itself and not the surrounding walls to make an example.

you mean MK logo? actually, one of my ideas is to include it, as a part of some shrine or something like that. extremly busy with work right now, hopefully I'll show something on weekend.

i actually meant the dragon in the stages image but what you are saying sounds even better

finally an update. I'm pretty much done with the composition. Some details will be added when this thing goes 3d, but I'm eager to hear any comments, crits or suggestions.
