I dont post here super often but i'm always reading thru threads and stuff. I just updated my port with a bunch of new work, and also switched to a flexible width layout, check out some of the new work here:
The work you have is pretty impressive, although I'm not a fan of blog-style portfolios. Your texturing is great, I would really like to see you do something a little out of your comfort zone or in a different style. A+ work, though.
WOW! your work is so inspirational! im just starting a weapons/vehicles portfolio for school (mostly for me because i dont really give a damn what the school wants to see because their credibility is washed down the toilet and im too far into the program to quit now but thats beside the point). im definitely going to be spending a lot of time looking at your work. once again.. amazing job on everything you've got there!

Wow, ^ that means a lot, thanks for all the comments guys. I guess the only thing "bloggy" about the site is the news section which i think i'm gonna toss out, since its not really needed..
Gorgeous texture work on those guns, fucking sweet!
I love all of the little details you added, paint, scratches, additional materials. Also really respect the restraint of color and noise! Dig the varying levels of noise in specular on the metals too, to define surfaces more. When coupled with the diffuses, you get a really cool feel to the guns.
Awesome stuff... Bookmarked for reference!
BUT...
Whats up with the mountain and water background?? http://www.polygoo.com/port/ak94.html
i would remove those images.
I like the mountain shots a lot actually. The small pitting on the metal surface in the normals looks really nice with the darker finish/dirt buildup. I do think its a little strange that the gallery starts with the high poly and not the textured version though.
Alan, I noticed you are doing that on all the guns where you show a high-poly. Is that to differentiate the guns with height-map normals from the full bakes? I don't think that's really necessary since I am having a hard time telling which have height map normals.
Lol the mountain and water is just a map it's spawned in from udk, didn't think it was that big of a deal.
I have way too much stuff to go and take consistent shots of every single asset, I agree about showing the hp on some and not on others, yea I could just show 1 high poly shot of the ak instead.. And yea I gotta retake the shot of the sv45 without the grid.
Ya the wear is mostly brush work mixed with photos, I keep the more localized stuff hand painted since its a hard thing to photo source. In the end i try to get the benefits of photos and hand painting.
I'll try to get some flats up on this thread.. Some of these are pretty old though so I'll try to post a few flats of newer work..
Probably the best weapon texturing I've ever seen. Attention to detail here is amazing, you've really captured the metal on that AK. I'd love to see a tutorial or some texture flats.
Hey Alan, you are one of those few vehicle/mechanical artists that still make me realize I have quite some to learn. When I create a texture I think is pretty good, I look at your portfolio and realize I've still got some ways to go...
Tip of the hat, sir! Would really like to get some insight in your texture process.

That means a lot coming for you man, I use your shader quite a bit, really fantastic work on that. Your portfolio is great as well! Thanks!
wow beautiful work.. LOVE the paint job on the guns. Great texture work. The Van however kinda ruins it for me. I dont like the rods on the truck and it looks really low poly and the texture work it not as good as your guns. Still I do like all 3 pictures

Which rods are you talking about? If its the glow sticks, well those are 100% emmissive in game.
Yea, well the van was a bit of a weird asset, it was meant to rarely ever be seen from the outside, so the outside is kinda low poly, I'm pretty happy with how it all came out personally, homefront's specs were pretty damn low in some areas so that was part of the direction on that asset. And the shots I took of it are kinda crappy since they are all aliased pretty bad..
I'm still kinda confused by what you mean by "3 pictures" ? You went to my site right? There are more shots on my site then just the 3 in this post..

How is this blog style?
Great stuff man

awesome stuff! Pencil tool fo' life!
I would like to see some textures
Cudos to THQs weapon animators too, did a terrific job!

i would remove those images.
Also remove the grid in this image. http://www.polygoo.com/port/sv45.html
Try and get the same images but with different guns for all your weapon shots. Try and get everything to match.

Why not show your textures? Dosn't make any sense cause that's what you did on all those guns. I would love to see them!
Could you tell us a little about how you made those terrain textures. Looks ace!
I'd also like to see your textures as well if possible..

Great job!
Do you do a lot of layering of full images?
or do you try to create brushes that simulate the wear realistically?
Ya the wear is mostly brush work mixed with photos, I keep the more localized stuff hand painted since its a hard thing to photo source. In the end i try to get the benefits of photos and hand painting.

This!
Damn, good catch, i must have removed those by accident. Thanks for that
@ everyone else, thanks so much for all the positive comments, I'm speechless!
