Well hopefully this pic explains a bit more on where I plan to take this.
The basic idea is a large warplane crashed in the jungle above during a long forgotten war. Over time it's massive weight caused it to break through the cave ceiling and form a sink hole. Now it rests partially submerged in a underground pool.
The jungle foliage has formed a lush oasis of sorts among strange rock formations that have been formed over the eons by the subterranean waterway.
The fighters will battle it out in ankle deep water in front of the wreckage. The pool gets deeper as it goes further back into the cave.
I'm planning to base the plane off of the large bulky "brigs" seen in the anime/manga Nausicaa rather than a real life aircraft. I'd rather have more creative freedom with it's form and size than get caught up trying to recreate an actual aircraft from the real world. Though the B17 from WWII was very tempting.
A blockout and light studies are next on the agenda.
I figured I better work out some ideas in 2D before I move on to 3D so here's a rough concept.
Next up: Blockout
On a side note:
I hit a little speed bump in my progress. I had been meaning to redo my custom hotkeys, layouts, menus, etc... ever since I upgraded to Modo 501. So I figured I'd better do it now in the hopes that it'll result in a more efficient work environment. Unfortunately it took it took more than a few hours, so hopefully it wasn't a mistake to do so.
I love the fat bomber design! refits the ship perfectly. I was going to suggest looking at Porco Rosso for reference, but Naussica is an even better choice! Nice!

I pretty much never play fighting games so I have no idea what the story behind this stage is.
Though I suppose that doesn't really matter as I'm only going to keep the composition and the general idea of some wreckage in a cave.
For now I'm planning to make this a lush sinkhole type of cave with an opening to the sky. The ship will instead be a crashed warplane.
I hope that this idea fits within the re-imagination guidelines.
This time I mean to finish what I start
Good luck to everyone.
also... Goonies, pirate cave! (HEY YOU GUYIZ@!@)

@Anuxinamoon:
Thanks, I like caves too. They're so alien seeming to the everyday experience.
@Thor Odinson:
Yup seems like it will be a fun scene to work with.
@LocoMan:
Thanks!
@Mark Dygert:
Thanks, yeah I've got some pretty drastic changes in mind.
Even though Goonies ranks as one of my top 5 favorite movies I'm switching the pirate ship for a crashed half/sunk aircraft of some sort.
@Rico:
Thanks, I'll definitely need that luck, I've got a bad track record with finishing these challenges :poly136:.

@jeffro:
Yeah you're probably right. Though I'm not quite sure how I'll accomplish that yet. I'll definitely keep it in mind as I work on this scene.
