I was working on a texture when i noticed that a corner had two verts that needed welding. So naturally i expected the uv to morph, so i welded the verts in the uv editor, saved, then welded the model, then put the uv back on and it fit accept for that one poly with the stray vert. How do i fix this?

But if your using max you can find out what's going on with your model as far as some errors go and It's in the modifiers list / STL Check <- if you have holes ect.ect. this will find them most times.

if that is what you are talking about, then, like billredd said, its a smoothing error, not a texture/unwrap one.
Im assuming since you said "deleting the modifier" your using 3dsmax....poopinmymouth has an image explaining smoothing groups HERE.
Basically, it looks darker because its trying to smooth that corner, but the angles are too harsh...so you would either have to add another loop to soften the angles, or have a hard edge/seperate smoothing group there.
