I personally like the 3rd top one with the massive arms. His main weapon of choice are his slicey bits, so why not put the focus on that. Could be cool combined with the lowest left head! Take away some of his human persona and add more beasty bits/mutilation.
hmm I love the style, but you've lost his iconic claw and fang style in the process, you should try to incorporate his original details a bit more into the new design, to make it really scream baraka, rather than some other creature.
The claws are corkscrewish in the latest image. Think about a blade that wraps around your for arm under the skin and comes out in that way. I thought it was a bit interesting and deviated enough from the original design. So far people's initial reaction is "weird." I'll keep workin at it. Thank you for the feedback guys.
I like the idea of the corkscrew blades. I think if you can keep the look of Mortal Kombat universe, you can take liberties with things like that. If he's got a head full of teeth and spikes sticking out of him my heads going to think "Baraka".
I'd consider keeping the head closer to humans perhaps, as if its mutated from a human form. At the moment I think the head looking quite alien (kind of reminds me of the Cloverfield creature). Perhaps look at an apes skull for reference? Just my thoughts :].
I dig the corkscrew blades and the head!
If he looks like a martial arts fighter with armor, then you're in the right direction for keeping it in the universe.
Baraka already looks like a mutated head anyway, and you're simply pushing it further IMO and in a good way to make him even more kick ass. But I agree somewhat with scrawld, avoid him looking alien. Humanoid creature type is one thing, but pushing it to the alien form would be distinctively different.
His key features traditionally:
Blade arms
Insane Teeth
Crazy looking
So I'd say you are still staying true to the character.
If you wanna get down to brass tacks, I don't see anyone complaining about the direction Gav is taking ShangTsung. Not to say what Gav is doing is in anyway shape or form a bad thing, I dig his concept hardcore because he's seriously taking it to a whole 'nother level, but to say that what Seven is doing here deviates too much from the traditional form of Baraka is just silly as the entire point of the comp is to redesign the character for more badassary.
@onelunglewis: I love Holdeen's work. I may embellish the armor on his legs a bit but I don't think that I will go too nuts with the armor on this one. I felt I needed to pull it back a bit from the first sketch. Whether I've gone too far yet, I don't know. I'll keep working at it.
personally i like the blade coming out from the side a bit more. it makes a little more logical sense and it sticks a bit more true to the design. either way im loving your spin on baraka, keep it up
I took some inspiration from Dean Holdeen (thanks onelunglewis). If I go with one of the ones with the more elaborate silhouettes I'll probably refine the interior shapes.
i like the simplicity of the first set of legs, but it's just not enough UMPH i also like B & C legs, but they feel somewhat busy.
i really like the little shiny pointy bits at the top of the waistline of C legs and i like C the most. Maybe tone it back just a bit.
i really love how you are approaching the design here. great stuff!
Head A definitely has the best mouth/fangs, but I prefer the ears and brow shape of head C. Legs I'm a little torn on... A looks somewhat boring compared to the others, but I'm not sure which ones I prefer.
Really feeling the overall design aesthetic though, looking forward to seeing this take shape in 3D.
Really clean topology, however the hands seem to be a lot bigger than they should. If it's exaggerated proportions I'd say mimic that exaggerated in other aspects of his anatomy.
Thanks for the feedback. @wester I fixed the hands to be smaller but haven't included it in this update as I haven't done enough to the mesh to really show a base mesh again. But here's a head sculpt..... WIP.

one more quicky... still not really happy... more sketches to come.
I'm torn... so I did another one and expanded on one of the head designs.

Just sayin....
Straightened out the blades, still working on the mood.

If you add little more detail towards his forearm then it look be kick ass character

@gaganjain: Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
little suggestion I would say make bit in 30s
you can go with th is, or you can go with that.
Top one imo-
@Tyrone70: I'm planing some blade like things that are armor like that sit around his shins. I'll have to expand on that more in a bit.
filling out the head.
last screenshot A!
cant wait to see how this turns out

Legs: Right one with the pointy shin things from the middle.
Those two get my vote.
heads:
A has 11 votes... I think.
B has 3
legs:
B has one
C has 5
Thanks for the input... I may start on the mesh tonight.

I'm not happy with it and I'm not sure why.
