Post-Apocalyptic Nuclear Power Plant (Environment)

I dare say 'inspired' by the recent events in Japan, concerning the Fukushima Power Plant (along with what has got to be equivelent of weeks worth of my life playing STALKER and researching Chernobyl) I wanted to give a whack at modeling the environment for a Post-Apocaylptic Nuclear Power Plant.

The completed environment will be used in my game project if I am satisfied with the result, but it also means that while detailing this I want to keep it low poly (and no normal maps).

Don't forget Handford, one of the oldest sites, and where the nuclear material for both WW2 bombs came from. It's also a ecological disaster area, so you know lots old junk that's been abandoned and forgotten for way too long. They're finally cleaning it up but wow... what a nightmare.

Also check out WPPSS. Whoops is right... Nothing quite like a massive nuclear complex that never quite got off the ground.

Its good that you got some Chernobyl ref in there but since you're doing post apocalyptic you should dig up some of the mountains of modern day ref.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, I'm glad you're not just jumping in but taking some time to do some planning.

Can't believe I left out Handford, thanks! The additional reference is great.

Pictures of Chernobyl are strangely hard to come by, especially decent ones. I'm trying to find the reference pictures used in STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, as the team actually got clearance to go through Chernobyl (with an escort of course) and take pictures. Those would be amazing to get a hold of.

Here is my basic block-out, I'll add it to the original post here in a minute.

    Any opinions, ideas, anything?

My only comment is about the location of the two large towers (reactors?) in relation to the rest of the buildings. In the reference from 3 mile island, there is a bit of space between the towers and the buildings, im assuming because of noise or safety concerns. Right now it looks like you could spit and hit the tower from the adjacent building.

Also take into consideration how vehicles would have gotten around this facility before the apocalypse. Right now it looks like they would spend alot of time driving around things to get where they need to go.

With three mile island the placement of the reactors are based off of the structure and stability of the island itself.

As for transportation, you are correct, I'm working on adjustments for that (most notably the cooling tanks obstructing the semi-truck garages) along with making note to make plenty of transport stations and vehicles around in the final scene.
