Have you used the mirror mode in Skin modifier with Max 2011?
I just cannot get it to work, everything is centered and xform is reset, I have used the mirror tresh value to get rid of all the red points etc. - yet it doesn't mirror anything. ever.
Could this be a problem with 2011 64-bit or have you got it working?

Is the mesh is actually symmetrical? As in you apply symetry and you can toggle it on and off and the vertex/tri count doesn't change?
Even if its off a little and mostly correct within the threshold tolerance it should still work. Are you clicking green to blue or blue to green to actually paste the values?
IS the skeleton animated at all? I've had trouble mirroring when it is. Save out the aniamtion, strip out all the keyframes and try it that way. Also make sure the skeleton is in the bind pose where the mesh was bound.
Also are you using a biped, custom skeleton or CAT? IF you're using biped put it in figure mode which should match the bind pose, select all the pieces, hold alt, right click and choose set skin pose. Take it out of figure mode, do the same except choose assume skin pose, then try to mirror it again.
it's a biped, I guess my mistake was trying to do it IN figure mode. I did as you advised and it seems to work now
