3ds Max Error - Missing transformation Widgets

Hello,
I'm having a slight technical hitch with 3ds Max, about a day ago my widget for transforming my object has disappeared (The X,Y,Z Coloured Axis), does anyone know of a fix for this? I'm currently using Max 2011 Student Edition.
Also, occasionally, when closing Max I get an error saying the default UI cannot be written.

I'm not sure about that one. Maybe run it as administrator?

I get an UI issue like that sometimes are you using vista? run as administrator should fix it
