Not surprising really, lions are pack animals where as tigers are mostly solitary so would be more kick ass lone gun style get the job done dont need no back up bastards!!
average weights for lions vs tigers (african lions vs bengal tigers. siberians are even bigger)
male lion 182kg
male tiger 221kg
female lion 126kg
female tiger 140kg
if you were to compare that to say, boxing, with weight catagories. a male tiger has 21.4% more bulk than a male lion, and a female tiger has 11.1% more bulk than a female lion. bearing in mind that each boxing catagory is sepparated by a difference of typically around 4% a lion would be punching well above it's weight class against a tiger.
i'm not surprised at all that a tiger would kick the snot out of a lion. the only way the tiger should lose is vs a pride. period.

Lion + Tiger = Liger or Tigon (depending which one is the mother), Liger's are bigger than both lion and tiger.
hmmm, good point. but... what if tiger will stand on to the lion's back?
