Hello everyone. I started making assets for an art style my friend concepted awhile ago and I need a bit of help. The idea was the World of Warcraft style with higher detail. This meant things like indirect lighting, normal maps, special shaders, etc. I began making a wishing well that I thought would have looked good. He also said, "imagine a world crafted by an artist." For that reason, he had us hand paint everything.
I heard that the individual light/dark values of a texture aren't suppose to be painted in areas that are redundant to the normal map. For that reason, everything has the same value, but different color in order to express the illusion of value.
Standard view. Looks alright, but flat as I expected
However, adding a normal map makes it look much more ugly. I have a hard time trying to make normal maps fit in with a hand painted look. Do you guys have any idea on how to make it look better?
