Maybe I'm not understanding what you want to do but this doesn't sound like a script question to me.
The easiest way to do what you're wanting is to render an AO pass and a wireframe pass and then composite them with something like After Effects. It's probably possible to set it up to render as one pass but I've never needed to do that so I'm not completely sure.
Is there a reason that this type of method will not work for what you want to achieve?
Whenever I'm doing wireframe in Maya I like to use Maya Vector render to get really clean wireframe results and then I just composite it afterwards with Photoshop, give that it's a still.
