Hey Everyone,
This is my current High Poly Project, based on some fantastic little mech concepts from Sam Brown. It's about half-done, and I'm hoping to have time to bake and texture it, as well as continue to post some updates of my progress.
This is the first robot/mech I've made, so anyone who knows the genre - advice is much appreciated. I've been using Laurens Corijns Eat3d Dozer tutorial while making this, and it's helped my worklow greatly.
EDIT: Concepts
are not by me, but the very impressive
Sam Brown.

Art is by the great Sam Brown by the way, http://sambrown36.blogspot.com/ always link your sources!
I did a global blockout of max primitives, but I hid them all as I started modeling. There are a few unfinished large shapes that weren't in these WIP renders. I do, however, have a tendency to get caught up in detail, so I'm trying to keep myself in the "big picture".
This model is for a rigging class, so I'm modifying the concept a bit, and taking from some of the other ones there, to end up with a more interesting and functional rig, i.e. he needs to be able to fold up into a little stationary camera, so I've been tweaking the legs quite a lot. This is where I get frustrated, because I have no experience modeling mechs, and everything has to "work".
I have about a week now that I'll be able to dedicate towards only finishing the high poly modeling on my spring break. More updates to come!
I have to pull my finger out sometime soon and start getting jiggy with Maya.
I really like the style of lighting and render you used, care to share your set up ?
Here's a video of the rig in action, with an old version of the model.

nice high poly modeling, shame you haven't gotten to the bake yet--but make sure to bump the thread when you do
