I have a blog and let me just say it was the best decision I ever made. One day I got an email from a company in London who said they liked my blog, said it looked professional and asked if I'd be interested in going to an event to play EA's Battlefield 1943 and review it. So I did, was very fun.
After that they invited me to another, Valve's Left 4 Dead 2 and asked me to review that. You can read them here:
yeah I got a blog. bloggers pretty good and its becoming more customisable. Mine has pages (portfolio, contact, etc) and also image viewing pop up on portfolio. still WIP really though.
thinking of starting one.... I pick up a lot of tech art tid bits during work. Might be nice to write it down (for myself) and also to share it.
Gotta try to keep personal stuff and work separate. Personally I cannot stand "CG" blogs where you have to wade thru tons of posts like "football team X is awesome", "I had great spaghetti yesterday", "my car broke down" to find the hidden gems that matter to other CG artists inbetween them.
I think having a strong internet presence is really important in this day and age. Blogs are a great way to get your name out there, they're very personal, and they seem to attract a little more professionalism than, say, deviantart. (nothing against deviantart, it's just something I've noticed.)
I use my blog to check up on what artist friends/art heroes are up to. I also post on it about once every year! I agree that it definitely helps in terms of having a presence on the web.
Going to be updating it much more frequently, only 5 months till graduation so I'll be pumping out stuff left and right. Followed a few blogs posted here
Yeah I thought about using that. But I didn't really want to connect mine to a tumblr or blogspot. Mine's wordpress but it doesn't have a bar at the top saying "wordpress". Plus I wanted to have a lot of flexibility. I enjoy editing website and stuff.
Anyway. I'm going to start using it as a sketchbook but I'm trying to think of a way that my long posts won't get buried(great movie just saw it last night lol) by a bunch of short sketchbook posts. I also don't really want to commit to sketchbook everyday.
I did nothing and was getting 100 hits per day. Stats said it was mostly Google, Interlopers.net (signature) and TWHL (profile link). Just from that I got noticed. Now my links are spread further on Polycount, Kotaku, Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, YouTube (thanks to my half life 2 playthrough videos) and GameTrailers.
So yeah, post your link around and you'll be surprised how many people will click the link in your signature out of curiosity. Oh and funny enough I came across a blog by googling sci-fi and it belonged to a member on here: Glottis8 who posted above.
Not bad. One thing that I'd recommend is to reduce the amount of stuff you have on your header. I'm on a pretty big monitor and I still had to scroll down a good bit just before I could see the rest of your first image.

Oh ok, thanks. I'll go and make the header image more thinner.
I try to post project breakdowns, tips, tutorials, etc. Things that are relevant to getting a job or doing environment art but maybe don't have a place in my portfolio space. I try to post once a month or so.

I occasionally check up on the ones in my list to see if they're updated.

They get in contact with me every now and then so yeah, make a blog cause it'll also allow employers to see your design thoughts.

and I follow tons of blogs, it's the best way that I keep up with art outside of polycount. use a reader like google reader and subscribe to feeds!

Tried to keep it as simple as possible. I ran into some trouble trying to create an RSS feed link. Can anyone help me with that? Thanks.

Post on polycount. If people like it enough they will want more and click your name hoping there is a website link.
