Hi to all,
I am here to advertise a position within a team that is working on the game Double Cross. The team is constructed of three third year computer game design students. We are seeking a programmer to work on our core mechanic that will bring our final project to life. If you feel you might be interested in this position, read over the following sections and see what you think. If after reading you think we have described you and you want to get involved, please see how to contact us below.
The Game:
Two players are in an environment where there is an enemy that only teamwork can conquer. One player can tag the enemy whilst the other can damage. Unless tagged, no damage can be taken by the enemy. Only one player can make it out alive. The player that can tag must decide when not to tag that enemy that is attacking their ally so that they can be the sole survivor, but what if the other player who can deal the damage has decided not to kill the enemy the tagger has tagged.
What we are looking for:
We are looking for a programmer to outsource our core mechanic too. There will be other programming tasks that we might need consulting on, but the core mechanic is top priority. For detailed information on our core mechanic, please contact us.
We are looking for someone to start immediately.
What we offer you:
This is an unpaid role, so we are unable to offer you a monetary payment, however if you are looking to expand your personal portfolio on a great project that is already in production (and hence is actually happening) this is a good position for you. You will be credited of all work and if we expand our scope after university and we are impressed with your work, you will be offered to join our team going forward into a new company. Our university has a reputation of final/major projects being continued after the course is over, just look at Mush for the Windows Phone and Q.U.B.E. that can be found here on indieDB.
Skills you should have:
We would like you to have good knowledge of the UDK engine and UScript. The core mechanic is based on the relationship between players, weapons of these players, and an enemy type so knowledge of how player, weapon and enemy scripts work would be a great help.
We would expect you to have a mature attitude with consideration that even though this is a university project; it should be looked upon in a professional manner. We would expect you to keep to deadlines discussed and set within team meetings (or by other communication) and that you can self manage your time.
What we have already:
We have a solid in-depth design document that communicates the following: Core Mechanic, Game Mechanics, AI, Game Elements, Sound and Audio and Game Progression. There is also an appendix that covers fallback mechanics, concept art and orthographic diagrams.
We are midway into building the level in UDK and production of characters in Maya has begun. We have already worked out (and got working with various builds) UDK networking.
Double Cross Team:
We are a team of three game designers with different individual strengths that when working together forms a very strong team. We are based in the University of Wales, Newport and are in our final year of a computer games design course that will award us with a BA (Hons) at the end. This project is the summary of three years of hard work and dedication so we are very passionate about it as anyone would expect. Taking a step back from the work, and even when working to be fair we are chilled out and extremely easy to get on with.
Communication:
We are open to all methods of communication as long as there is no hindrance to the information during that communication. Skype is usually always the best method for us, this with use of our forums allows us to speak to each other and present work visually too. We are prepared to use email as a method of communication, but please ensure that you are able to communicate well using this method.
If you are interested in joining our team and helping us out, you can contact us via the following methods.

On behalf of the Double Cross team, I thank you for your time and hope to hear from some of you soon.
