That render is fantastically and comically gruesome. I really hope you spend the time making the rest of the model look as impressive as his belly does, and not get caught up in material and texture tests for just that one part. If the entire character comes out as well as it's going, I really think this will be great.
no offense meant here......but when i first saw the very first post w/the concept i wasn't very taken. but now after seeing how awesome the eyeballs look. man, update SOON.
I wish the shirt was plaid or something- mainly because from a material standpoint the shirt is really similar to the eyes and the eyes loose a bit of their punch as a result-
the same could *almost* be said for the color of the iris`s and the zombie skintone.
nice eyes rendering! But I think that the original idea of the cartoonish character doesn't completely fit with the realistic eyes. You kind of made it okay though.

How are you planning on transferring it to 3D? Keeping it cartoony, or more photo-realistic? (Might be a bit too gore in that case I think.)
I will keep it like that for the modelling but I want a more realistic render (with mental ray I guess). In fact, I want something like that:
