Seems like an update is coming up. New sneak peek video.

So far the video just shows how mirroring will be handled. Hopefully Topogun implements some of the tools already found in 3D Coat and Wrap It.
From what Cristi said, the beta will start in February and the upgrade will be free for people who already own 1.0.

heres the second sneak peek, released a short time ago.
that alone justifies 2.0 to me. can't wait to see what else is new.

Still not seeing anything that 3D-Coat doesn't do already though.
A few years ago it was almost entirely Max/Maya and Photoshop. Now I use zBrush for most of the work, then Topogun for retopology, Max for unwrap, Photoshop for texturing, and the engine for preview. Basically Max is only used for unwrapping now in my pipeline.
Personally, I welcome it. I think the more fragmentation, the less we have to rely on bloated software, the better off we are.
but I donno! I don't mind how it is now either.
clicking around and moving the mesh while talking and without furtehr purpose is like tearing my head
Yeah, I need to checkout 3DCoat... looks pretty sick
I understand its a bit more pricey, but it certainly has a richer, more diverse feature set to justify the price tag. It does great UV's, great Retopo, Great 3D paint + projection and great voxel sculpting, the benefit of which can hardly be understated. Not to mention AUTO-retopo which even at its infancy now, its super-double-extra awesome.
That said...I tried the Topogun beta before the 1.0 release and had serious trouble getting it to even work/run at all.
It certainly looks like it has come a long way though, and thats great news for its userbase.
Ditto... I think Modo is getting close but it's not quite there yet.
I was waiting for the tube tool, im happy its coming! I hope that the ability to manipulate a vertex 'outside' of the reference surface will be there too. That was the only 2 missing features, I think.
I used to use Topogun before, but completely stopped when I picked up 3D-Coat, it feels so fast to use once you've set up some proper hotkeys, love the brush mode, with smoothing, as well as doing quick point selections to relax them. It's not perfect though, there are some things that bother me, and a few missing features.
(or - we could share a mesh, and show the world how to use both 3DC retopo and TG tools at their best on video! hehe)
For me topogun was stable after 1.06 update
Have you ever wanted to retopo a mesh after watching a feature video, or is that just me?:)
Hah, that could be fun, would have to find something not too long.
Heres another preview video just released.

"TopoGun 2.0 will be free of charge for existing users."
for anyone who didn't see that.
I've been playing with 3d coat recently, but I dont have enough experience to give my stance, I will say the auto retopo is pretty sweet.

It's mostly the new symmetry tools that interest me the most, as 3D-Coat only has a global symmetry (symmetry planes) that is apllied to the whole model, you can't turn it off and on to easily work on a non-symmetrical model (which I do alot).
The access to the entire Max toolset is an incredible bonus too. You can also use Wrapit for a lot of stuff beyond retopo, fixing blendshapes and such. I can only recommend it although I'm not sure if there's a demo to check it out. Oh and it's quite cheap too.
Chill man, we're just discussing things here, many people here have tried both software, and it's interesting to see what they feel are the strong/weak points of each one.
As I even said in my last post, it looks likely that I'll switch to Topogun again at the next version, as it has some stuff I find lacking in 3D-Coat.
Yeah Wrapit looks nice, still waiting for a demo, I'm back to using Maya these days though, so it's not really an option for me.
3DCoat - Good wide array of features. Very useful for multiple tasks. More expensive. Big features overlap with other packages (zBrush especially) Hard to convince an AD to get licenses in a smaller studio.
Topogun - Narrow array of features. Does few things, and does them well. Low price-point. No feature-overlap with other packages. Very easy to convince an AD to get licenses, especially floating ones.

This morph feature looks great. I can think of at least one awesome use I'll have for it right away.
The symmetry stuff is cool, but this morpher feature looks more substantial. I wouldn't mind seeing some new ways to create geo as well.
