Hey PC,

So I am working on a level for school of an old abandoned hospital and I have a long hallway that i want to line the sides with trash/debris... stuff like that, make it look old and dirty, as well as cover the connection between the floor and the walls.

I am wondering what the best way to approach this is. Would is be best to create terrain in UDK and material it to look like trash? Would it be better to model little trash pieces and import it as a static mesh and duplicate it over and over?

This is my first class with UDK but I am learning quickly :D

Typically what we do with our games is that we have a few trash models that we duplicate and hand place everywhere. There's really no automated solution that really looks all that good and you end up having to tweak everything to death anyway.

Since you're in UDK, make sure you use the Static Mesh Mode (the arch looking icon in the top left corner). That lets you quickly lay down surface aligned static meshes with random rotations and scaling values. That really saves time....
