Maxon Bodypaint problem, please help!

Ok, so im trying to paint onto a model in Bodypaint, however, each time i press down with the brush tool, the model just becomes smoothed, and quickly zooms in, instead of painting onto the mesh. I cant figure out whats going on and its really frustrating me any suggestions?
