This just got posted around at work, it's from a photoshoot of many different athletes (male and female) showing how different their bodies can be.

Awesome, informative reference.

This isnt something it pays to be arbitrary about, though. Many of these physiques are specific developments and adjustments to the sport they play -- it would look ridiculous to have the heavyweight wrestler's physique in many videogame roles. The space marine or the swashbuckling hero or the skilled brawler would need a much slighter build to fit the demands of their profession.

Boxer, ice skater, hockey player, soccer player -- all very much fit the idealized body we usually see in superheros or videogame characters.
