Hey, I just joined today in a bought of insomnia.
I'm a bit of a cartoonist and I've always had a vague but persistent interest in 3D modeling. The Team Fortress 2 Polycount contest first directed me here and I decided to just up and join.
What I'm interested in doing is learning the craft of taking my cartoons and rendering them in a 3D environment for animation purposes- plus some superficial TF2 modeling.
Is this the right community for that?

This community is mostly focused on real-time 3D graphics for game development. Although you can still get some really great advice here for 3D art in general, you might also want to look into a forum more specialized in pre-rendered 3D animation to get help with the different technical aspects that come up with that kind of work. CGSociety might be worth looking into, but they seem more focused on stills than animation so there might be a better option for you out there.

Polycount, really, can help with just about everything. Collectively, this community has quite good art-sense.
So yes, it is right for you.
Welcome to the Polycount! Here you will find the tips and crits needed to refine your work and improve it even further.
Interesting, I'm going to give these communities a look.
I must admit, I am more than a little interested in trying my hand at real time graphics...
Thank you all for your welcome. I'm looking forward to getting into this!
